‘JOHN ‘00’ FLEMING & THE DIGITAL BLONDE (00.db): OXYGENE’ REMIX
The UK DJ & Music Producer, John ‘00′ Fleming (www.john00fleming.com), contacted JARRE UK earlier this year, informing us of his work-in-progress on his own personal tribute to Jean Michel Jarre, a NEW Remix of Jean Michel Jarre’s 1976 Classic, ‘OXYGENE 4′, and asking us for our assistance with the project.
JARRE UK has been providing assistance to John ‘00′ Fleming over a period of five months now, providing contacts, feedback, and more recently, providing a photograph for the cover artwork for this project, which was taken at Jean Michel Jarre’s ‘IN-DOORS’ Tour in Manchester earlier this year.
In recent weeks, John ‘00′ Fleming & The Digital Blonde (00.db) have been performing this NEW Remix, entitled ‘OXYGENE’, at various clubs and festivals around the world, which has received a positive reaction wherever it has been performed, even Jean Michel Jarre himself has recently given them the thumbs up with “a good job”.

John ‘00′ Fleming explained to JARRE UK why he chose to pay tribute to Jean Michel Jarre, and why it was important for him to maintain the original chord progression and melody of Jean Michel Jarre’s ‘OXYGENE 4′, in remaking a 30 Year Old Classic into a Dance/Trance track for the 21st Century:-
“Both myself and Ricky (The Digital Blonde) have been huge fans of Jean Michel Jarre for many years. JMJ was responsible for getting us both into electronic dance music in the early 1980s when we were both still at school. The scene back then was either led by live bands or disco; the latter was electronic music but done in a very distasteful commercial way.
Jean Michel Jarre’s music was futuristic, it was groundbreaking, in such a way it created a WOW factor when you heard these space age sounds created by one man. He is the man responsible for leading me down the path that took me where my career is today. He is the reason for my obsession with synthesized music. In fact, I believe JMJ, unknowingly, played a part in making the electronic scene what it is today.
Myself and Ricky always wanted to pay tribute to Jean Michel Jarre by remaking one of his best known tracks, ‘OXYGENE’. We actually planned this a good 6 years ago, but got distracted by other projects. We wanted to tastefully bring the track up to date. In this commercial world, we’ve all seen artists/labels cashing in on remaking old classics and completely trashing them just to make some quick cash. We have done the complete opposite. We simply wanted to bring the track up to date in a specialist electronic dance version. We are both known for our serious take on electronic dance music, so we’ve kept our proud and honourable tag truly in place by keeping this remake as a serious piece of music (like the original was). It would kill me to hear ‘OXYGENE’ with a cheesy leadline and vocal on top.
Releasing ‘OXYGENE’ on my own label JOOF Recordings, gives me full control of who I ask to remix. I chose the same likewise producers to each add their own take. I have to say the reaction was the same with everyone I asked, all jumping at the chance to remake one of their hero’s track. I’ve had the same conversation with all of them, of how JMJ played a part in getting them into electronic music. We both feel very proud knowing JMJ himself likes this along with his team. It was nervous times awaiting their reaction, especially with a track so close to his heart.”
‘JOHN ‘00′ FLEMING & THE DIGITAL BLONDE (00.db): OXYGENE’ will be released as a digital music download on September 1st 2009, available from iTunes, Amazon, Beatport, and various other digital music download services. The Radio Edit also appears on ‘CREAM TRANCE ANTHEMS: IBIZA 2009′ (Catalogue Number: CREAMCD6), a 3CD Box Set released in the UK on the Ministry Of Sound label on August 17th 2009.
